Take Off Your Shoes
Take Off Your Shoes!!!
“What is this crazy girl talking about, I love my shoes!”
I know that is what you are thinking. That is the same thing that I thought when I first heard that phrase. So what am I talking (or writing) about? Fear is what I am talking about. Fear of the unknown, fear of stepping outside of your comfort zone, fear of standing up for those that can’t speak for themselves. Fear can be crippling, trust me I know! Fear is not of God, and it is certainly not how He wants you to live out your life. What if I told you, regardless of the fear or challenge in front of you that God is able? His Word so clearly says so in Matthew 14….let’s take a look.
Meanwhile, the boat was far out to sea when the wind came up against them and they were battered by the waves. At about four o’clock in the morning, Jesus came toward them walking on the water. They were scared out of their wits. “A ghost!” they said, crying out in terror. But Jesus was quick to comfort them. “Courage, it’s me. Don’t be afraid.” Peter, suddenly bold, said, “Master, if it’s really you, call me to come to you on the water.” He said, “Come ahead.” Jumping out of the boat, Peter walked on the water to Jesus. But when he looked down at the waves churning beneath his feet, he lost his nerve and started to sink. He cried, “Master, save me!” Jesus didn’t hesitate. He reached down and grabbed his hand. Then he said, “Faint-heart, what got into you?” (Matthew 14:24-31 MSG)
Let me tell you…Peter took off his shoes and stepped out in faith, not knowing anything for sure, other than that Jesus had called him forth. He had faith that despite the challenge before him that Jesus would fail him. But fear, the sneakiness of it, still crept in. Now, quick question…would you have stepped out so easily? I know for me I would be freaking out. I can only imagine that Peter began to get a little ocean sick, began to worry, and immediately that fear took him under….but not without the best life saver!
What is holding you back? Holding you back from taking that new job, starting that nonprofit, from giving in your time, treasure, or talents, from moving to that new state to pursue a new God adventure? I want to challenge you…challenge you to take off your shoes and get out of the boat! Be confident in the fact that He has a plan, a purpose, and He will always be there. He has the rescue plan in place for us all, remember?
He is calling you forth into your destiny—don’t let fear hold you back!
