Life Hacks

Hi Beautiful,

It’s 2014, and it’s time for a takeover.  I’m hacking my life. Care to join?

There’s one thing I can be sure of — this year, like every year, will hold its share of challenges.  But, I’m determined to adopt some “life hacks” this year that will make the journey a bit less chaotic.  A “life hack” is making a simple change that makes a seemingly difficult task much easier.

If you’re anything like me, when someone says “life hack,” you think of tricks like this:

Or maybe this:

How does this relate to God or the challenges we’ll face this year?  I propose we make a simple change that can alter how we react to this year’s challenges.  This year, my life hack will be to choose peace.

You and I have no clue what we’ll face this year.  But, we can be proactive.  We can choose peace NOW before we’re in the middle of a challenging situation.  How?  Let Christ’s words set the example.  As our Prince of Peace was nearing the time when he would be betrayed by his friends and yield to death on the cross, he gave the disciples some advice:

“In fact, you’re about to make a run for it—saving your own skins and abandoning me.  But I’m not abandoned.  The Father is with me. I’ve told you all this so that trusting me, you will be unshakable and assured, deeply at peace. In this godless world you will continue to experience difficulties.  But take heart! I’ve conquered the world.” (John 16:31-33, Message Bible)

Take heart.  He’s got this.  He’s already conquered the world.  The verb “to conquer” means “to take control of by the use of force.”  Let his peace take over!

We can fully trust that even though our journey in 2014 may not be easy, it will be sweet because of whom we’re walking with — the Prince of Peace.

I choose to walk with him … with peace.

Love you,

Ashley Marchand

  5. This is so good Ashley! One of the life hacks I’ve learned when it comes to peace, is in those moments where chaos tries to surround my mind. I repeat scripture over and over so that worry or doubt or anxiety or whatever else doesn’t settle in, but that I’m replacing that with what God said in the Word. For instance I would pray “God I pray that your peace which surpasses all understanding would guard my heart and my mind.”

Here’s the full scripture: Phil 4:6-7 “”Do not be anxious about anything. Instead, in every situation, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, tell your requests to God. And the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”

  6. Thanks, ladies! We have such an incredible wealth of scriptures on peace. One of my absolute favorites that I cling to is John 14:27, where Christ says, “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

Know what that tells me? That we can decide that no matter what we face in this life, we can steer our hearts toward peace because HE gave us peace as a gift. It’s our inheritance. He gave us HIS peace.

Such comforting news! I LOVE it.
