Let’s Get in the Arena

Well, Teddy, you nailed it. I’m pretty sure I want to be THIS person. And if you’re honest with yourself, deep down, it’s also the person you want to be.

But being “in the arena” means having to open the door to vulnerability. You have to be brave and (gasp!) NOT perfect. Everyone gets to see the real you; the imperfect, I just woke up like this you.

That’s always a hard one for me since I have an addiction to perfection. Often rooted in a need to feel valued, and laced up with a dose of insecurity—before I know it I’m carrying a few extra pounds of self inflicted, give-up-before-I-start weight. The arena of “daring greatly” looses its luster when I can only see the failure in my valiant effort. A once beautiful dream becomes a brutal reality of failed attempts.

Here’s the secret: We need each other. If my failed attempts at “daring greatly’ in my arena can add strength to your life, then I haven’t failed. My imperfection looses weight in my life, while making yours lighter and brighter. (Now, if we could just make that work with cellulite I would be ecstatic.)

  2. Thank you so much for sharing this! The unknown when stepping into a new or bigger situation is daunting and requires bravery….especially when perfection isn’t always achievable. It still amazes me how God uses those moments to help us grow and be able to handle even more moving forward!
