Brave Stories: ‘I Had to Leave it All to Gain it All’
Leading up to BYC2015 (YAY!), we’ll be featuring stories of bravery from the gorgeous models that grace the Beautiful You Conference website. If you recognize any of these women, we aren’t surprised. They live in our communities, serve at our churches, and they always rock the prettiest nail polish colors.
Name: Christiana Coker
Occupation: Conference Planner
Hometown: Ashburn, Va.
What brought you to D.C.? I moved here with my family when I was in the 4th grade because of my dad’s job.
My three favorite things are…my husband, youth ministry, cooking.
When I was five I wanted to grow up to be…CEO of Costco.
The band or music group I have on repeat: Hillsong
My must-watch-whenever-it-is-on chick-flick: Pride and Prejudice
The nail polish shade I could wear everyday: OPI in How Great is Your Dane?
A perfect day in D.C. would include…eating. There are so many good restaurants!
Beautiful You Movement (BYM): Can you tell us about a time in your life that you have had to be brave?
Christiana: When the Lord called me to missions work and asked me to leave my home, my full-time job, and my friends and family to move overseas.
BYM: Can you describe what you were feeling during that time?
Christiana: I felt surprisingly at peace. I felt confident and joyful. I was excited to see what the Lord was going to do through me.
BYM: How have you seen your act of bravery affect those around you?
Christiana: By the grace of God, I saw people come to Jesus through the work the Lord enabled me to do while I was there. He has now opened a door for me to continue doing that work here in a very specific, impactful way that I believe will shepherd many to Christ. God is SO GOOD.
BYM: How has your relationship with Jesus changed since you have made the decision to be brave?
Christiana: Oh man, the Lord has turned my world upside down. He changed my heart. He gave me passion, love, joy, peace, and a life of abundance and blessing that only he could have. I had to leave it all to gain it all in Jesus Christ, and I’m so thankful he called me to do so.

She currently works at a Christian non-profit organization in Lansdowne, Va. and attends The Community Church in Ashburn, Va. Christiana stays busy by serving with her church’s ministries, traveling the globe (she’s been to seven countries and 40 states!!), and jogging around town with her husband Chris.
